Mobile messaging is undoubtedly more and more the center of attention these days. About 1 billion people in the world own smartphones, and given Facebook’s attempts to extend its touchpoints with mobile consumers, one can see how this acquisition would seem appropriate. Details on price and how advanced the process is are not yet known.
It’s important to remember Whatsapp’s global relevance, present in over 100 different countries, including a number of emerging markets, in which Facebook wants to make its mark. 750 mobile networks have people using Whatsapp, on iOS, Blackberry, Android, Windows Phone, Symbian and Nokia S40.
